Dr. Jason W. Piefer graduated summa cum laude from Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in biomedical science and earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, where he was recognized as an outstanding student in orthopedic surgery. He completed his orthopedic residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he trained under team physicians for the Washington Redskins, the University of Alabama, Auburn University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He then completed his fellowship in sports medicine with U.S. Ski Team doctors at the Taos Orthopedic Institute in Taos, New Mexico.
Board certified in orthopedic surgery, Dr. Piefer specializes in sports medicine and his clinical interests include general orthopedic surgery, trauma, arthroscopy and arthroplasty of major joints. He believes in injury prevention, using non-operative management when possible and minimally invasive procedures as indicated.
Dr. Piefer served as an orthopedic surgeon for local high school teams and NCAA Division 1 football games in Birmingham, Alabama. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine.
Taylar Hayden, PA-C, is a board-certified physician assistant working alongside Dr. Jason Piefer, MD, at The Woodlands Sports Medicine Centre in Conroe and Woodlands, Texas. She grew up in South Texas in a small coastal town and enjoyed fishing, competitive gymnastics, basketball, and cheerleading.
She attended Texas A&M University on full academic scholarship as a Terry Scholar and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Health Education in 2011. She received a Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies in 2013 from UTMB in Galveston.
Her career has focused exclusively on orthopedic surgery since she started practicing at The Woodlands Sports Medicine Centre in 2014. She has a passion for patient-focused care and emphasizes collaboration with other specialists to improve patient outcomes before, during and after surgery.
She advocates for patients and offers both nonoperative and surgical treatment options. Taylar enjoys working in both clinical and surgical roles and is pleased to assist Dr. Piefer in the operating room when surgery is indicated. She has a specific interest in shoulder, hip, and knee injuries.
